The book is an intricately woven tale of fantasy and nightmare. As the final book of the much hyped series of The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn delves into the blossoming romance of Bella, a human being, and Edward, a vampire. The book is divided into three parts. While the first and third part is written from the perspective of Bella, the second part is narrated from the perspective of the shapeshifter, Jacob Black. The first part of the book commences with Bella’s marriage to Edward, their honeymoon and the disclosure of the news that Bella has to share with the rest of the coven after her honeymoon.
The second part shifts the focus of the story to Jacob, his undying concern for Bella, the arrival of the new character, and Bella’s subsequent transformation into a vampire to save her own life.
The third and final part shifts the focus to Bella, showing her in her new avatar as a vampire, and their struggle to save the new character from the group of vampires known as the Volturi.
Breaking Dawn is full of unexpected twists and turns. From what seemed to be an already impossible romance in the first series, Breaking Dawn deludes the reader further about the chances of a happy ending through the tumultuous and devastating consequences in the lives of Bella and Edward. Will they live happily ever after or suffer a cruel fate?
Needless to say, the much anticipated book sold 6 million copies by 2008. In the first 24 hours after the book was released, it sold over 1.3 million copies in the US itself. The novel received the British Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year. The book, like the others in the series, has been adapted into a movie in two parts. While the first part was released on November 18, 2011, the second part was released on November 16, 2012.
