জন রোনাল্ড রিউএল টলকিন সিবিই এফআরএসএল (জে. আর. আর. টলকিন নামে সমধিক পরিচিত, হলেন একজন ইংরেজ কবি, লেখক এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক। তার পূর্ণ নাম । তার ধ্রুপদী উচ্চ-ফ্যান্টাসিধর্মী দ্য হবিট, দ্য লর্ড অব দ্য রিংস ও দ্য সিলমারিওন বইয়ের জন্য বিখ্যাত।তিনি ইংরেজি ভাষা ও সাহিত্যের অধ্যাপক হিসেবে কাজ করেছেন অক্সফোর্ড কলেজে। তিনি নাইট উপাধি প্রাপ্ত হন। টলকিনের পিতার দিক থেকে পূর্বপুরুষগণ ছিলেন মধ্যবিত্ত কারিগর। তারা দেয়াল ঘড়ি, হাতঘড়ি ও পিয়ানো তৈরি করতেন এবং লন্ডন ও বার্মিংহামে তা বিক্রি করতেন। টলকিনের পরিবার ১৮শ শতাব্দীতে জার্মানি থেকে ইংল্যান্ডে আসেন কিন্তু তারা দ্রুতই ইংরেজ হয়ে যান।তিনি ২রা সেপ্টেম্বর ১৯৭৩ সালে মারা যান।
