Hussain M Elius built Pathao from a joke website and a dying courier service into the largest technology platform in Bangladesh, moving hundreds of thousands of rides and deliveries a day, employing 1,500 people directly and 50,000 more indirectly, and carrying 40,000 small businesses and 30,000 restaurants on its back. It was the first startup from Bangladesh to raise venture capital, the first to cross a border, the first to prove a real technology company could come out of a country most investors could not find on a map.
